Walk Through The Woods

Woods are not like other spaces. To begin with, they are cubic. The trees surround you. Loom over you, Press in form all sides. Woods choke off views and leave you muddled and without bearing. They make you feel small and confused and vulnerable, like the small child lost in the crowd of strange legs.

Stand in the desert or prairie and you know you are in the big space.
Stand in the Woods and you only sense it, they are vast, featureless, Nowhere, and they are Alive.

Like this painting where I could sense the essence of life unfolding its beauty all over me.
